  • Service Dogs are allowing the general public.

    • This doesn't include operating rooms or the burn unit in hospitals because that is a health code violation.

  • Businesses can only ask two questions:

    • Is this a Service Dog?

    • What tasks does the dog perform?

  • Businesses cannot

    • Ask for medical records because that is private medical information.

    • Ask for a certificate of ID for your dog (those are scams)

    • Charge additional fees

    • Require task demonstration

    • Deny access, isolate, segregate, or treat the person less favorable

  • A Service Dog is not required to be labeled as a Service Dog.

    • The training makes the dog, not the vest.

  • Dogs are not required to be leashed if it interferes with a dog tasking, but they must be under control vis verbal commands.

    • Tasks that fall under this category could be crowd control, retrievals, or fainting response.

  • Businesses can ask you to leave if your dog is misbehaving or poses a threat to others.
